The Devonshire St Trifecta - Part 1

The Devonshire Street Trifecta
Looking for something nice to do this weekend? I often refer to the 'Devonshire Street Trifecta' when talking to friends about one of my favourite little places to eat, read + love.  The Book Kitchen, ici et la and La Maison - three beautiful stores all in one little village corner, at the leafy end of Devonshire Street Surry Hills.

My love of book cafes inspired me to start the 'eat read love' blog journey. I was so happy when I stumbled across the The Book Kitchen a little while ago, a place where you can indulge in books AND food - two of my great loves. I had a little window of 'free time' on Saturday, so I swapped the double pram for my camera, and stopped by for a coffee. The cafe was buzzing, the coffee was great, the sun was shining, and the streets were lined with beautiful green trees and lots of happy Saturday morning folk.

EAT & READ: while the chef prepares your delicious breakfast served with Single Origin local coffee, you can sit and read, or browse through the walls of 'gastronomic literature', a mix of new and antique books to browse or buy. My idea of R&R. The Book Kitchen is open daily for Breakfast and Lunch 8-3pm, and now open for Dinner on Friday & Saturday nights.

LOVE: walk out of The Book Kitchen, take a quick left and you will stumble across a Sydney style icon ici et la (means 'here and there' in French). Overflowing with fabulous rustic French furniture, antique books, french garden chairs, vintage leather seats, beautifully bright 'basque' signature striped fabric, zinc letters, industrial lighting and many more objects de charme to decorate your home or garden. I love the vibrant striped fabric and deck chairs out front.

Of course I cannot write a post on the 'Devonshire Street Trifecta' without mention of the gorgeous French provincial icon store - La Maison. If you love French furniture, this is the place to come. My heart races every time I walk in the door!

The Devonshire Street Trifecta - Part 2 is coming soon to the blog and will feature many more 'ici et la' in store delights.

Have a great weekend

Laduree + Chanel = Happy

Oct 25, 2011

I started the day with a gift from Paris. I ended the day with 'Midnight in Paris'

LOVE: Unexpectedly lovely Tuesday at home with my boys. Received a beautiful gift today from Paris. Lovely Chanel + Laduree chocolates, two of my favourite things. Thank you Kate. My love for all things France continued into the evening. My husband and I went to see Woody Allen's latest 'Midnight in Paris'. I love going to film with no expectations. Pleasantly whisked away to 1920's Paris. I won't say anymore, as I dont want to spoil it for you - but fellow dreamers and Paris lovers, this is definitely worth a look.

From Coast to Country

From Coast to Country…

On the regular three hour Friday night drive from Sydney to the South Coast, it is usually about the time that we drive down the hill and cross the railway line into Gerringong that I start to feel relaxed and unwind….normally we continue on into the night to Mollymook, our ‘home away from home’. But this time was a little different.

Instead of driving through Gerringong, we turned off into Bella Chara – the beautiful boutique resort just five minutes before Gerringong central. My beautiful baby boys were in the good care of their lovely Daddy, while me and four very special girlfriends enjoyed some much needed time out from the craziness of work, kids and Sydney!
Some serious Eating Reading & Loving was on the agenda, with sleep a special request on the menu for five busy mums! Arriving just before twilight we were very happy to reach The Bella Suite to find chilled champagne, strawberries and personalised fresh white robes laid out for us in anticipation for the next day’s spa pampering. The Bella Suite was decked out with beautiful furnishings and the huge sunken, candlelit bath was fabulous.

After some much needed champagne (and sleep), we hit Berry the next day for a little retail therapy, only a short 15min drive from Bella Chara. Our first stop - the Berry Sourdough Bakery for essential strong coffee and delicious pastries. Famous for its fabulous sourdough, hidden away off the main street, the bakery is a favourite for tourists and locals. It is always buzzing with people, and very friendly service – you can sit and enjoy your coffee in the sun, or takeaway as you please.

Coffee in hand, an essential visit to Roots & Wings boutique, the home of gorgeous designer clothes, beautiful coastal inspired homewares and gorgeous stylist and owner Rebecca Riles. You can’t miss it – the entire shop front is covered in ivy and a destination in its own right.

The NSW South Coast and surrounds, where the countryside meets the sea, has always held a special place in my heart. You can be on the beach in the morning, and driving through beautiful countryside 5 minutes later. After getting married at the Old Church in Milton, followed by an amazing wedding reception and honeymoon at Bannisters Point Lodge in Mollymook, this very quiet and relaxing little part of the world inspired me to start Eat Read Love.

So do yourself a favour, pack up the car with a few essentials, and head South to Gerringong, hit the shops in Berry and continue on to Mollymook and Milton – you won’t be disappointed, but you will be relaxed and inspired. Perfect for pampering weekend away with the girls, or lovely for families too.

EAT: Berry Sourdough Bakery, lunch at the Berry Gourmet Deli, a local beer at the Berry Pub, 3 course dinner at Bella Chara restaurant.

STAY: at Bella Chara Gerringong - enjoy the contemporary Black & White luxury suites. We loved the personal welcome note upon arrival - a very nice touch indeed.

LOVE:  the day spa and high tea experience at Bella Chara was heavenly! The new Lisa Madigan store in Berry is definitely worth a visit too.
