Coffee Lovers Retreat, Little Gunga, Milton

Jul 29, 2012

Photos by Natalie Hayllar {eatreadlove}
Little Gunga is one of those great little hidden gems that I love to find and write about in my eternal search for the best eat read loves around. People are saying that this is one of the best places to get coffee on the south coast. I would have to agree.

This weekend me and my boys returned to Little Gunga for a coffee stop after our adventure into the Milton rain forest. This is the place where you can enjoy your coffee bathed in morning sunlight, surrounded by magazines and books, rustic interiors and the smell of fabulous coffee and home baked goods. The Persian love cake served with yoghurt is my absolute favourite, but Mel's wholesome date muffins baked fresh that morning were a close second! Mr 2 and Mr 4 loved their vanilla ice with marshmallows too.

The lovely owners, Mel and Blake, originally from Sydney, moved to the south coast last year and haven't looked back. With a loyal following of coffee lovers, both locals and tourists alike, this is def a must stop for coffee, cake and a little time out.  Choosing from the extensive coffee menu is not easy with a choice of Espresso, Ristretto, Shortcut, Doppio, Willie Nelson, Half Nelson and the usual to choose from. Blake also confesses his love for colourful coffee mugs stacked with pride on top of the La Marzocco!

Not only do these guys take their coffee very seriously (it is fabulous), they have also created a warm and artistic space to enjoy it. The interiors combine industrial lighting, handcrafted wooden tables, solid wood paneling and a touch of green on the white washed walls with bowls of coffee beans and quirky collectibles.  I just love the old green Melbourne tram lights, apparently from the depression era, picked up from Nook Vintage on a recent Melb trip. The perfect colour for the space. Little Gunga is also an art space for small exhibitions and live music.

Little Gunga is open from 7.30am until about 2ish (Tues - Sat). I love that the opening hours reflect the laid back lifestyle and culture that draws me to the south coast every time. Just be sure to get there early so you don't miss out.

Oh So Natural with Seth Smoot

Oh so naturally nice with Seth Smoot
I just love the natural tones and styling in these photos by Seth Smoot our featured artist on the blog this month. He has so many wonderful images, it was hard to chose. This selection represents my love for beautiful natural tones, rough timber and soft worn leather. A big fan of bringing elements of the outdoors in, and bringing the indoors out to take advantage of the natural light and the trees. Who would have thought a pair of quirky vintage shoes, an empty coffee cup, and an outdoor bathroom could look so good! Love, Love Love these pictures.

Thanks again to the Seth Smoot for permission to use his gorgeous pics on the blog!

Style Sessions: Adore Home Magazine

Jul 27, 2012

STYLE SESSIONS WITH - Loni Parker, Founder & Editor of Adore Home Magazine talks to eat read love about style inspiration, a love of colour, travel dreams to NYC and shares a sneak peek into the August issue.

Adore Home magazine is Australia's first online only home and lifestyle magazine, available exclusively online. All beautiful and all in one place, Adore Home really is a one stop shop for home inspiration, new to market products, and gorgeous holiday destinations from across the globe. The August issue is just around the corner, and Loni has shared a little of what is to come - the colourful home of Jane Petterson, owner of Velvet Lane, Sydney design team Arent & Pyke, or some seriously stunning interiors from Sydney's PAD
What is the inspiration behind your beautiful online Adore Home Magazine? I was inspired to start Adore Home magazine as I had a real love for interiors and also was working as a graphic designer at a small publishing company in Brisbane. I decided to fuse those two passions and create my own online magazine. At the time when I started Adore there were no other online only home magazines that were Australian, only US based ones, this also spurred me on to create something that Australians could read and relate to.

How would you describe your signature style? I would describe my style as being modern-glam. I'm very much in love with bold black and white colour schemes with punches of accent colour to bring the look to life. I'm a huge fan of Greg Natale's design work but also love the wildly colourful designs from Brisbane interior designer Anna Spiro.

Whats hot in Australian interior design right now? I think neon is making a big come back in both interiors and fashion, but I don't see it lasting the long haul. Great for accessorising a neutral outfit or room to bring it up to date. I think in general colour is what's hot and it's refreshing to see colourful interiors as opposed to the dull beige interiors you see so often in print magazines.

Which designers send you weak at the knees? Greg Natale, Anna Spiro, Kelly Wearstler, Abigail Ahern and Jonathan Adler.

What inspires you to get out of bed in the morning? Work! I've recently quit my job and now working on Adore Home full time and I couldn't be happier. I love getting up to check my Adore Home emails and then get to work on ideas and layouts for the magazine.

If you could travel anywhere tomorrow where would it be? New York! I have been planning to get there this year, but a few things have stopped me. Hopefully 2013 is my year to travel to the big apple and also I'd love to visit Palm Springs!

EATING - dark chocolate with almond flakes - yum!
READING - lots of design blogs - haven't got the time to read a book.
LOVING - PAD - a store in Sydney - haven't visited it in person yet but I'll be featuring them in the next issue of Adore and the store looks amazing!
Thanks Loni for joining us on {Style Sessions With} and giving us a little taste of the gorgeous interiors we can expect to see in the August issue. I cannot wait to see more on PAD, and Velvet Lane looks like such a find. Oh and I was VERY excited when eat read love featured on the Adore Home blog last month. What a treat!

Have a great weekend.

Summer Days with Anthropologie

Jul 24, 2012

I can almost touch Summer...
Winter is almost over, and warm Summer days no longer seem too far out of reach. I just love the latest indoor/outdoor summer range from Anthropologie. Dreaming of watching the sun set from this divine canvas cottage - it would be great poolside, beachside or in the middle of a lovely big backyard. Oh and I can just imagine lying in the warm sun reading a book on this lovely hammock. We all need a little inspiration to get us through these cold winter weeks. Anthropologie always delivers beautiful home ideas. They do ship some items to Australia (not sure about the big canvas cottage through!)

Have a great week

Laduree in Sydney in September

Jul 22, 2012

Laduree is coming to Sydney but we just have to wait a little bit longer!

A very reliable source, that is Laduree Paris, have told me that September is the new launch date. So fellow Macaron lovers eagerly awaiting the opening, the wait is almost over. The Laduree store will be located in Westfield Sydney Corner of Pitt and Market Street Sydney. The irony is that I will actually finally be visiting the Laduree store in Paris when it opens in Sydney!

The Sisters - stunning and unique floral designers in Sydney's South
I recently popped in to say hello to The Sisters at Engadine Florist. Two gorgeous sisters, delighting the south of Sydney with unique and beautiful floral designs. I met the girls at One Fine Day wedding fair, and recently caught up with them in their beautiful store. Such a gorgeous range of candles, books, gifts and stunning floral designs.

Creative at heart, 'The Sisters' Naomi and Esther can do just about anything when it comes to floral design, so much so that people will travel for miles just to buy there flowers. Oh and they have a lovely blog too.

Enjoy a little Sunday afternoon floral inspiration
