With a focus on fresh local produce, gorgeous interiors and a delightful riverside setting, Wharf Rd is sure to be a hit.

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to attend the launch of brand new riverside restaurant Wharf Rd in Nowra. It was a perfect day - the sun was shining, the water was sparkling blue and I was surrounded by some fabulous south coast peeps. Everyone was buzzing with excitement to get their first glimpse inside the much anticipated new restaurant from David and Nicole Campbell. Both Wharf Rd and Sister restaurant Hungry Duck in Berry pay tribute to the local area and produce - locally grown, in season and from the heart. The dishes are fresh and modern with a strong South American influence, thanks to the custom built Peruvian style barbecue and rock salt drying room. What I love about this place apart from the super stylish interiors and the riverside location (it's right on the Shoalhaven river) is the focus on local sourcing. Alpaca from Milpaca farm in nearby Berry, Schottlander Wagyu from Gerringong, Moonlight flat oysters from Batemans Bay and plenty of fresh Shoalhaven seafood, vegetables and dairy. Standouts on the menu - Ceviche flathead, crispy quinoa with tomato and chilli salsa, the 'Al Dogs' with sweet pickles, mustard and ketchup, and the Cheesy scones with gravy were delish. Such a sweet finale - David's special Churos with Brulee, and of course the Pisco Sour is my new favourite cocktail!

This post would not be complete without mention of the beautiful interiors by interior designer Rebecca Riles, owner of Roots & Wings design in nearby Berry. Bec has done a brilliant job in bringing the old boatshed to life and paying homage to the local area and natural surrounds.  Blending soft alpaca rugs, bespoke industrial lighting and hurricane lamps with super cool custom made bar stools and beautifully handcrafted woodwork, designed by Bec and all made by Ulladulla local David Gunn. The cosy stone fireplace is the perfect spot to sit with a few cocktails, and the sunny front corner tucked nicely under the bridge overlooking the river is my pick for the perfect table location. Oh and the provate dining room is gorgeous. What wonderful people I met at Wharf Rd - some very welcoming new friends and fellow foodies (yes Di and Denise it's you) as well as a surprise 'mini school reunion' with some old friends from many years past, the day couldn't have been better.

So whether you live in the area, or just passing through, make sure you stop in for lunch or dinner on your next trip down south (heading south you can see it on your left as you head over the bridge at Nowra). For a casual yet sophisticated lunch, a special dinner or some cruisy cocktails at the bar with friends.  You wont be disappointed.
