EAT // The Stables Co Op + Venus Cafe, Surry Hills

The Stables Co-Op in Surry Hills + Venus Cafe.
We had so much fun on Friday checking out The Stables Co- Op in Surry Hills. This fantastic Victorian terrace houses the fashion distribution arm, with retail shop at the front, Venus Cafe at the back and commercial office space, this little hub of design (just opposite The Beresford Hotel) has such a great vibe. Unlike the modern day mega department store, The Stables is a retail, creative, dining and distribution space all in one, rich in quality and history, reminding us all of how businesses used to co-exist in Sydney. The owners have a real passion for the community spirit and building the Hill Street precinct into a bustling local haven.  The staff at the Venus Cafe looked after us so well with coffees and salads too! Oh and did I mention the secret rooftop space where something very exciting will be happening in October…stay tuned for that one, you wont want to miss is.  In the meantime check this place out for your next lunch or coffee stop.

EAT // Roberts Restaurant - Circa 1876, Hunter Valley

Roberts Restaurant, Circa 1876, The Hunter Valley
A trip to the Hunter Valley is never complete without a wander through the historic Roberts Restaurant Circa 1876. Built in 1876 as the name suggests, Roberts is one of the Hunter Valley's most treasured, iconic and picture perfect places to visit.  The heritage listed cottage is full of elegant antiques and open fires just waiting for you to sit, relax and enjoy a glass of red. We didn't have time to stop and eat and enjoy the restaurant this time but it will definitely on my list when I return. We did get a chance to wander through the gorgeous market garden and vineyard and visit the little white chapel at the back of the Pepper Tree Winery Estate. Such a special place indeed and worthy of a few photos too.  You can stay right next door too at Peppers Convent which is equally lovely.

STAY // Peppers Convent, Hunter Valley

Peppers Convent and Roberts Restaurant, Polkolbin Hunter Valley
Of course you remember this beautiful home from The Farmer Wants a Wife don't you…? Well no trip to the Hunter Valley wine region (just 2hrs from Sydney) is complete without a visit to the stunning Peppers Convent and Roberts Restaurant Circa 1876 in Polkolbin. This little gem is nestled amongst winding gardens and historic vineyards dating back to the 1800's - it even has white doves! The old white chapel at the back of the Roberts herb garden and vineyards of the Pepper Tree Winery Estate would have to be one of the most stunning wedding locations in NSW. I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful Wine Country with a group of lovely mums from my boy's school and we had an absolute ball. This was our last stop on the way home and definitely worth a look. Oh and the Pepper Tree Shiraz would have to be one of my favourites indeed.

TRAVEL // Vinden Estate Winery, Hunter Valley

Aug 23, 2014

Vinden Estate Winery & Vineyard, Hunter Valley
We recently stumbled upon one of the loveliest boutique wineries in the Hunter Valley during our recent Girls Weekend Away. After a rather unpleasant experience at another winery 'they shall not be named but should be!' we stumbled across Vinden Estate and so delighted to spend the afternoon sipping on Alicante Bouschet (a light dry Rose) and Verdehlo in the French style courtyard as the sun set over the vineyards. The light was just magical and the Kangaroos even made an appearance. Thanks for your lovely service and excellent wine tasting. You certainly made up for our previous experience!!

ART // James Gordon, Atlantic Byron Bay

Splash Workshop with James Gordon at The Atlantic, Byron Bay
A little earlier in the year I had the pleasure of attending the SPLASH workshop with artist, illustrator and designer James Gordon at the stunning Atlantic Byron Bay. I also had the chance to meet some beautiful and inspiring ladies and fellow bloggers too during this visit including the lovely Penne from Adventures with Lulu, Twig & Grace, Simone Barter from Style Life Home and Nikki Buckland from Paper Runway as well at the gorgeous Kate James from Total Balance. The most fun of all was had making paper prawns with the hilarious and divine James (Jimmie) Gordon. A few champagnes down and my paper making prawn skills were somewhat limited, but it was lots of fun all the same! Oh and you have to check out the Atlantic for your next stay in Byron - it is awesome! Thanks to Nikki and Simone for putting on such a wonderful event.
