Tropical Flower Love

Tropical Flower Love for your Special Bali Occasion
Fresh cut flowers are one of my absolute favourite things. They make any room come alive, add a burst of colour to a table setting, say thank you, sorry and I love you. Finding a good tropical flower supplier for a special occasion in Bali can be a challenge too. Until we found Herni. When Lisa and I set about to try and create some gorgeous floral centrepieces for our recent Pop Up Dinner at Villa Sungai Bali we didn't quite know where to start. Herni from Gloriosa Flower House was amazing. The flowers were delivered fresh to the Villa and from there stylist Lisa Madigan set about to create a little floral magic. I had a little trial getting the tuberose ready to hang up…but I think I'll stick to blogging and leave the floral design to the experts (ha ha). And wait until you see the Ginger flowers that Herni deliver! Well WOW. A huge thanks to Herni for being so very helpful to us in Bali. The scent of tuberose wafting through the Villa was divine. Every time I smell tuberose now I think of Bali. If you need any help planning your dream wedding or honeymoon in Bali then please do contact Villa Sungai.

The Amazing Ornamental Ginger Flower

The Ornamental Ginger Flower. The delivery of this extra large bunch of Indonesian Ginger Flowers had us all squealing with delight. These pale pink beauties (sometimes known as Indonesian tall ginger, torch ginger or wild ginger) are divine showy pink flowers often used in decorative arrangements. I believe the flower buds are sometimes used as a cooking ingredient in North Sumatra too.

In preparation for our special eat read love pop up dinner dinner event we wanted some beautiful flowers for the table to continue with our tropical pink theme. Herni from Gloriosa Bali delivered these STUNNING Ginger flowers to us and we all fell in love with the colour and the size. The sheer weight of one bunch of these babies was hard to believe. I hope you like these pictures Luisa took of the delivery, the cutting and the styling, with our very helpful Putu carrying them, Sophie Baker looking so stylish holding them (they are really heavy!) and Lisa Madigan working her Ginger flower floral design magic, creating some lovely centrepieces for dinner table. Wouldn't these make beautiful wedding flowers too?

Megan Morton The School + Julie Gibbs Lantern Books

Images by Chloe Ferres. Styling by Megan Morton The School

Megan Morton The School hosts the Festival of Jewels - a wonderful 50th celebration for a very special lady.  Julie Gibbs (of Lantern Books and Penguin Books fame) kicked off her milestone Birthday celebrations (#thefestivalofjewels) in true bookish style with our very gracious host Megan Morton The School and special guest paper artist 'Jimmie' James Gordon. Vintage books, book loving ladies, cake, cake and more cake, and craft upstairs at The School... what more could a girl ask for?

Julie's Instagram community #Book_Chat has been a constant source of inspiration for me when looking for great new reads, and it is so great to connect with fellow book lovers through this little online community. Even better when you get to meet and spend the afternoon in person. This is why I love Instagram! It really does bring people together, who perhaps may never had met otherwise. Oh and did I mention the CAKE by Nadean Ingram of Flour & Stone fame. Only a few crumbs were left to tell the tale.

It was a special day indeed, beautifully captured on camera by Chloe Ferres with the most gorgeous Bookish table styling by Megan Morton and paper jewel craft direction from Jimmie G. It was a joy to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones too. Thank you Julie for inviting me to be part of your bookish birthday magic. And don't forget The School has a fabulous upstairs space perfect for private parties and functions.

Bollinger Champagne and Burgers

Jan 16, 2015

Bollinger Champagne and Burgers. Not a usual combo is it? I know but what better way to enjoy a bottle of Bollinger and celebrate your last day of holidays and recover from too many lychee Martinis than with some Bali style 'Bolli and Burgers. The ariel photo queen Luisa Brimble took this shot of us at our recent blogger retreat in Bali, enjoy a poolside lunch and some bubbles. After all that's what holidays are made of, and we were working very hard too of course! I will look at this shot everyday now that I am back at my desk and back into the grind of daily life. #bolliandburgers all the way I say. Until next time girls. x x

EAT. Best Restaurants in Bali, Mama San Bali

Jan 15, 2015

Photos by Luisa Brimble. On Location at Mama San for Eat Read Love Blogger Retreat in Bali

Mama San is one of the Best Restaurants in Bali.
Looking for one of the best restaurants in Bali? Look no further than Mama San Bali, a delicious place to dine in true style. We had an absolutely beautiful meal at Mama San Bali recently during my eat read love bloggers retreat, and loved trying all of the special dishes and cocktails on the menu. This is the place to come in Bali if you are looking for great food, great style and authentic Asian cuisine set amongst a fabulous interior space. The upstairs area is perfect to enjoy a pre or post dinner cocktail and there is a wonderful vibe throughout the entire space.

The name 'Mama San' was selected because of the old and new world influence on the  interiors and cuisine. Inspired by colonial Britian in Shangai during 1920's, Mama San is fitted out with marble top mah-jong tables, oversized tan leather chesterfields, industrial lighting, high ceilings, rustic timbers, exposed brick and dual level space with dining downstairs and a funky bar upstairs. While many restaurants in Bali are open air, this is fully air conditioned, serving as the perfect place to escape the tropical heat.  The bathrooms are pretty cool too.

I would highly recommend Mama San for your next trip to Bali - it's definitely one of my best restaurants in Bali. I am very much looking forward to visiting Hujan Locale in Ubud, the latest venture from the Mama San team. A huge thank you Herlia Adisasmita and Chef Will Mayrick for hosting us for this wonderful dinner experience, and also thanks to Villa Sungai Bali for being our gracious hosts during our Bali blogger retreat. Until next time. x
