Lisa Madigan launches The Cottage Kangaroo Valley in true style.
I have featured Lisa Madigan and the cottage many times on the blog and I am so proud of Lis'as recent success with her artworks and flourishing styling business. From our beautiful long table Kinfolk Cookbook launch to intimate pop up gatherings, this place has such heart and soul that you can feel the instant you walk in the driveway. Lisa and Rob (together with their very cute spotty puppies) have lovingly tended to every corner of the cottage to create a work of art in itself. I recently spent the day at Lisa's cottage to celebrate the launch of this gorgeous space as a boutique accommodation destination in Kangaroo Valley. Not only does Lisa paint some amazing oils, but she is also pretty damn clever in the kitchen not to mention the table styling and put on a beautiful launch spread for us all to enjoy. (Lisa and I will be hosting some wonderful Pop Up Dinners together and working on a very special Christmas in July workshop event too. In the meantime, here is a little info about the Cottage if you are planning a little mini break you have to visit The Cottage. It is DIVINE!!!

The Cottage Kangaroo Valley A refreshing 2 hours drive south of Sydney, nestled in the heart of Kangaroo Valley sits the cottage of artist LISA MADIGAN...THE COTTAGE kangaroo valley is a homage to it's natural surrounds & a space of luxury & raw beauty combined, this historic cottage exudes warmth & charm & character. Circa 1880's the cottage was built to house The Kangaroo Valley Times, steeped in printed history the cottage was given a new lease of life when Lisa & her husband discovered the unloved gem & made an impulsive & romantic decision to pack up & move to the country. 8 years on, after plenty of TLC & a well documented & featured interior in the media, Lisa's vision that was always held for THE COTTAGE has now come to fruition - to be able to truly share this charming space, the experience & the picturesque & rejuvenating nature of Kangaroo Valley & the South Coast.
Abundant little touches make the experience of staying or playing at THE COTTAGE utterly unique & delightful. Whether you're escaping for a romantic long weekend, a creative stay with friends or looking for the perfect location for your next shoot or special event, we would love to welcome you to THE COTTAGE kangaroo valley. THE COTTAGE experience is a unique one

The Little Book of Sydney Villages

Photos by Natalie Hayllar {eat read love}

Sydney's Villages in your Pocket.
From the gourmet deli's to laneway bars, home grown artisan markets and internationally celebrated cultural institutions, Sydney has the world at it's fingertips, and now you can fit it in the palm of your hand. 'The Little Book of Sydney Villages' is a new guide launched by the City of Sydney showcasing the food, shopping and experiences on offer in the city. A subject matter close to my own heart.

I love to write about Sydney's villages and have been doing so for many years on eat read love. From the Devonshire Street trifecta, the cafes on Bourke Street, Koskela and the ever expanding foodie scene in Alexandria, Potts Point and Surry Hills. And further south we have the Ramsgate Foodie markets and my local Cronulla dining scene just gets better and better. I love them all, each and every 'little village' offering something unique, bringing together communities all over Sydney.

'The Little Book of Sydney Villages' was launched by Lord Mayor at one of my all time Sydney favourite hangouts Koskela. I loved listening to Sasha Titchkosky of Koskela talk about 'opening a big old warehouse and taking a gamble on the emerging Sydney area of Rosebery', which is now a bustling village. The gamble paid off.

The brand new Archie Rose Distillery next door to Koskela is amazing, and sure to be another local favourite. Archie Rose opening last week, is set to be the first independent distilling company to serve the city of Sydney since 1853. Another stunning warehouse conversion indeed!

I am so proud to live in my City of Sydney and it is always such a pleasure finding and sharing my favourite eat, read loves from around the Villages of Sydney and beyond with you all. Keep your eyes out for this cute little pocket booklet too.

Hampton's Style at The Fish Shop Potts Point

Mar 11, 2015

Photos by Natalie Hayllar (eat read love)

I always imagine visiting the Hampton's. So many of my favourite TV Shows and books are based there. The Hampton's Style interiors are dreamy to say the least. I visualise green leafy streets, white washed homes and village bakeries & boutiques for the rich and famous. If you love Hampton's Style, but a visit is just a dream for now, perhaps I can inspire your escape to The Hampton's in our very own city of Sydney.

I recently popped in to say hi to the team at The Fish Shop, another of Merivale's brilliant venues, for a spot of weekday dining and to check out these famous Fish and Chips I have been hearing so much about.  Inspired by Cape Cod, The Hampton's, Nantucket, imagine a white-washed slice of classic seaside Americana in the heart of Potts Point, Sydney. "Executive Head Chef Jeremy Strode of Bistrode CBD fame has done for fish and chips what El Loco did for tacos". Here there is a relaxed vibe, a place to connect with Potts Point locals and travellers alike, a place to enjoy fresh, locally caught, mouth wateringly prepared fish with ice cold beer. You can even choose from organic to natural and bio-dynamic Australian wines. Drop a line at the Amateur Fishing Club Bar to sample the top class drinks menu. The fresh new garfish offering is a standout, and of course you can't go past the classic cheeseburger.

The Fish Shop is casual and classy, a place where you can pull up a stool and enjoy your fish and chips or grab take away lunch if you’re on the go. After lunch or dinner you can wander around vibrant Pott's point for a spot of coffee (Coffee, Tea and Me is great), people watching or cocktail sipping.

This month March into Merivale returns with a jam-packed line up of events, dinners, festivals and more to suit singles, couples and families alike. Throughout the month of March prepare to live an idyllic lifestyle all week no matter your taste, budget or appetite. Perhaps learn to cook from some of Merivale's most talented chefs, savour a brunch feast or a street festival with tastes from around the globe. Next week: The Fish Shop is hosting a Monday Detox.

Monday Detox: The Fish Shop

Where: The Fish Shop
When: Mon 16 Mar 6:00pm

* I was a guest of Merivale.
