One Fine Baby is coming to Melbourne this weekend
I have been working for the past few months with the fabulous One Fine Collective team on a very special event and the first of two events is happening this weekend! Get ready Melbourne, we are bringing Australia’s leading and largest family and lifestyle fair, One Fine Baby, to town for the very first time! We invite you to join us on October 17-18 at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens for the two-day event which brings together the ultimate edit of the best-of-the-best and super stylish vendors in pregnancy, child and parent related industries that will inspire and inform expectant parents who are starting a family, or families with young children.

With over 70 must-have brands to choose from including fashion, designer baby goods, interiors, stationery and arts and crafts, the fair also creates a perfect pre-Christmas shopping experience under the one roof. A petting zoo, jumping castle, live kids entertainment including a visit from Peppa Pig, kid friendly café, great coffee, and a VIP mummy zone where mums can sit back, relax and enjoy a little pampering, makes this is a family-fun day not to be missed.

We are super excited to welcome One Fine Baby ambassador and Melbourne local Nat Bassingthwaighte who will present her adorable children’s clothing label Chi Khi. Our friends over at Penguin Random House Australia will have a cosy kids and parents reading corner with author signings from Graeme Base and Beci orpin, with and high profile kids designer labels including Milk & Soda, Kido StoreKip & Co, Plyroom, Sack Me!, Poppies for Grace, Green Cathedral and many more will offer fresh ideas for modern and discerning parents and their cool kids.

EAT || Sydney Eats at Ms G's by Merivale

Oct 12, 2015

Photos by Natalie Hayllar

Looking for the perfect Friday Lunch in Sydney - Ms G's Turns on the charm.
Where do you take a French blogger to experience a quintenssential Sydney long lunch at it's best? Modern, decidedly Asian and unlike anything I have experienced before - Ms G's of course - one of Merivale's most popular venues in their expanding suite of amazing Sydney restaurants. From the moment you enter the door bathed in pink neon, each floor has its own unique feel with four floors of unexpected dining looking out over leafy Potts Point. The signature Graffiti wall provided the perfect backdrop to enjoy some photo fun with fellow photographer and insta addict Lily Rose, and experience the wonderful new Spring Summer menu on offer.

Executive Chef Dan Hong and Head Chef Paul Donnely can do no wrong, with inventive and unique mouth watering Asian dishes, each with their own special edge.  From the standout Prawn Spring Toast, Burrata with English Spinach, Poached Prawn and Chicken Salad and Curry Puff Jaffles, there is something amazing and interesting at every course. Oh and did I mention the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls

The desserts were incredible! The standout was the 'Stoners Delight Part 3' - an indulgent combination of doughnut ice-cream, peanut dulce de leche, peanut and pretzel brittle, mars bar brownies, passionfruit curd, potato chips and deep fried nutella all together! The  'The Boss' came in at a close second with Thai milk ice-cream, salted caramel honeycomb, puffed rice, kaya French toast and blueberry jam. (I wont be sending these lunch photos to my trainer!)  And of course a trip to Ms G's wouldn't be complete without a Ms G's Famous Yuzu Slushee - Wyborowa vodka, shot juju juice, Regan's orange bitters and lemon.

Ms G's has such a great vibe and was absolutely packed for a Friday lunch - so make sure you book ahead if you are planning a long lunch any time soon. With fabulous friendly staff, mouth popping menu, and funky decor, Ms G's comes highly recommended indeed!

Thanks to Lily Rose for spending a wonderful few days in Sydney together. Next time I see you will be in PARIS!

*Eat Read Love was a guest of Merivale.

ART || Artist Alexander McKenzie Exhibition - Edo

Photos by Natalie Hayllar at the Home Studio of Alexander McKenzie

Acclaimed Australian Artist Alexander McKenzie's new exhibition EDO opens at Martin Browne Contemporary on November 5th 2015.

The title of this latest exhibition reflects recent visits by McKenzie to Japan and his particular interest in Edo period gardens. The Edo period of the 17-19th centuries was a time of great political stability and seclusion from the world in Japan, which led to a flourishing of the creative arts.

I recently caught up with McKenzie in his home studio for a coffee and a chat and to talk about the ideas and inspiration behind these new works. Most of them were packed up ready to go but I did get a sneak peak of a few special pieces and they are incredible. We spoke of the magical Edo period gardens where the visitor is directed through the garden in a deliberate clockwise direction, encountering a series of scenes that are revealed at key points along the path. As in the gardens and McKenzie's work, often major elements are kept hidden until the last moment for maximum effect and impact.

This idea has played out in McKenzie's latest series of paintings where the strong narrative within the works is kept deliberately concealed until the viewer walks visually through the painting, discovering a series of scenes that are interwoven into the composition.

"This Edo period design idea is intended as a metaphor for real life, the uphill in the garden representing and uphill in life, arriving at the gardens summit simply reaching a peak in life" says McKenzie of the inspiration behind his new works. "I have taken this idea into the paintings where looking at the pictures carefully will reveal the story, for me it is this intended, almost unavoidable, maybe fatalistic walk that we go on in the paintings that truly echoes both our temporal and spiritual lives"

Alexander McKenzie has exhibited extensively with over 20 solo exhibitions in both Australia and UK since 1996. He is a five times finalist in the Archibald Prize for portraiture, and seven times finalist in the Wynne Prize for Landscapes.

STYLE || St. Barts Homewares

Oct 11, 2015

 Images by Madeline Johnson

Dreaming of Caribbean summers. Bright blue hues, fresh white walls and elaborate prints and textiles. With Summer just around the corner, it is always the perfect time to freshen up your home with a pop of fresh colour. Filled with worldly treasures, St. Barts is a haven of homewares and fashion for those looking to create a little 'overseas escape' within their own back yard. The ladies at St. Barts have personally curated a collection of luxe-bohemian wares inspired by the lifestyle of the Caribbean coast.

As avid travellers and collectors themselves, St. Barts emerged as a destination we could all enjoy with a creative intention to share, inspire and celebrate the joy and beauty of travel. Each treasure is sourced from artisans around the globe, with their own unique story attached, to fill our homes with an unmatchable sense of richness. The latest addition to the ever-growing collection features a range of hand-painted Moroccan ceramics in beautiful indigo hues.

Each trip they take is a whole new adventure like no other. From Morocco to Denmark to India, their stock is continually changing and updated and you’ll never know where the next collection may come from. A trip to St. Barts is as much exciting as it is inspiring for that sense of wanderlust within each of us.

For those lucky enough to be up on the sunny Queensland coast, St. Barts has two stores in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane and The Brickworks, Southport on The Gold Coast, where you can step into a dreamland escape. Otherwise, a selection of St. Barts wares can also be viewed and purchased through their online store. St. Barts is not only a store, it is also a story, and one that you’re invited to become a part of.
